PEER SUPPORT

Project Hope offers peer support through its members in the group and a vetted, trained staff. Peer support allows an individual to vent, ask for help or opinions, and to see you are not alone. Project Hope:EMS offers Hope! Not all wounds are visible!

TOOLS

Project Hope has tools that help you with symptoms of PTSI. Through different exercises and references. We have a vetted and trained staff to help you implement these tools, and talk you through the different experiences.

Kent Meyer, Founder

I had been an EMT and Paramedic for 14 years when I began struggling with the symptoms of PTSI. I was afraid to reach out to my coworkers due to the stigma, and unfortunately my career ended at the end of 2014. I got help for my PTSI and began cognitive therapy and treatment. I was relieved when I was diagnosed because I finally knew what was wrong with me. I tried finding help online for what I thought was losing my mind at the time, only to find help for veterans with PTSI but nothing for first responders. I felt all alone and like I was the only one in the world going through it. I promised myself I would use my experience to help other first responders but I didn't know what that would be at the time. In September 2016 I created a group "Project Hope: EMS" on Facebook for all first responders diagnosed with or having the symptoms of PTSI. I want to show others they are not alone and can get support and help. Its been almost two and half years since I started the group, and today we have 3 groups, 2 pages, a website, and over 33,000 members in over 51 different countries.

"This site has helped me see I am not alone, has given me hope to get better, and contacted me when they realized I was on a downward spiral. I’m very grateful the administrator contacted me because I was starting to have suicidal thoughts. Because of this site, I was helped that day. Not because I reached out to them but because they reached out to me. That saved me. Thank you Project Hope."

"Project Hope has saved so many people from the physical, emotional, and spiritual battles that we deal with because of our jobs.

It not only aids in dealing with the worst of stress it also helps connect each other with others that have gone through similar situations. This connection is one of the most important factors that Project Hope provides; just knowing you are not alone is enough to get you through.

In all the years of being an Emergency Services Chaplain, this is the first time I have seen a online group really helping  the men and women that are always there when we need them with compassion and authentic understanding.

Thank you to all those that invest into Project Hope... you are needed by those that we rely on in our worst day."

"Through my journey (struggles) with PTSD few resources have been as helpful as Project Hope.

I’ve learned from and been supported by Peers who understand where I’ve been and where I’m coming from. There’s something powerful knowing you’re not alone in your struggle(s).

The Administrators & Moderators have shared ideas and provided additional support when I’ve needed it. They do a good job of just listening when I need to talk."
